    Warning to air charterers: phantom freighter scams on the rise

    The dearth of air freight capacity has led to an increasing number of offers for freighters that either do not exist, or are parked in the desert not ready to fly.
    Charter brokers claim scams became prevalent during the PPE rush, as governments and inexperienced bookers urgently sought capacity.

    ‘Biggest product launch in the history of mankind’ set to hit general cargo

    General cargo shippers using airfreight when a Covid-19 vaccine is launched are set to face capacity shortages and price hikes.

    Prioritizing Critical Cargo

    CargoM, the Port of Montreal and their partners are ramping up to deploy the priority cargo handling system on a large scale.
    Developed last spring through a partnership between the Port, CargoM, Termont, MGTP, Scale AI and Ivado Labs to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, the system, named CargO2ai, uses artificial intelligence to quickly identify and prioritize the critical cargo that Canadians need. Read more here.
    Container cargo on the Great Lakes for the first time in over a decade

    On the morning of October 20, 2020, the general cargo ship Claude A. Desgagnés departed from the Port of Montreal bound for Toronto.
    This is the first time in over a decade that such a shipment has happened. In fact, the practice of container cabotage from Montreal to the Great Lakes has been abandoned since the early 1980s. Read more here.
    Bangladesh authorities agree cost-saving round-trip container use

    After calls from shippers, the Bangladesh government has approved the round-trip use of containers, which is expected to cut lead times and transport costs significantly.
    Lead times remain a major concern for Bangladeshi shippers, especially in the apparel sector with their main destinations being western countries. Bangladesh is the second-largest apparel exporter in the world. Read more here.

    CN Brampton/Malport Intermodal Terminal – Storage Relief for Weekend Pickups

    CN continues to encourage customers to leverage weekends to pick up import loads in order to mitigate elevated carter times.
    In order to support this initiative, CN is offering storage relief of $150 per day for a maximum of 7 days ($1,050) on any containers that have incurred storage, if the unit is picked up between Friday, October 23 at 20:00 and Monday, October 26 at 04:00.
    This one-time relief will be offered to the guaranteeing party only.
    European available road freight capacity dips sharply, raising prices

    European available road freight capacity on the spot market dipped sharply in September on the same month last year, falling by almost 14%, according to the latest Transport Market Monitor published by German cloud-based logistics software provider Transporeon and its subsidiary Tim Consult. Read more here.
