    Boeing says 60% more freighters needed by 2041 to support air cargo

    MIAMI — Boeing on Wednesday fine-tuned last summer’s projection that air cargo demand will double over the next 20 years, fueling a 60% expansion in the global freighter fleet.
    The biennial World Air Cargo Forecast was essentially unchanged from conclusions presented in Boeing’s broader commercial market outlook but did add some details. Read more here.

     

    Orlando International Airport To Close Because Of Tropical Storm Nicole

    American Airlines anticipates that Tropical Storm Nicole will impact airports throughout the Bahamas and Florida. As a preventative measure, the airline has issued a travel alert for 20 different airports. American’s passengers are allowed to rearrange travel plans on the airline’s website or over the phone without paying change fees. Read more here.

     

    London Heathrow Airport workers strike over pay

    Workers employed by Dnata and Menzies at London Heathrow Airport will take three days of strike action, beginning November 18, 2022, in a dispute over pay.
    The strike action involves 700 workers employed by Dnata and Menzies. The workforce carries out a wide variety of roles, including ground-handling, airside transport and cargo. The strike action will begin in the early hours of November 18 and will be completed in the early hours of November 21. Read more here.

    CN Incentivizing Weekend Pickup for Import Containers in Toronto and Montreal

    To help maintain fluidity at its Toronto and Montreal yards (Brampton, Malport, MISC and Taschereau) in the coming weeks, CN is offering relief of $150 per chargeable storage day for a maximum of 12 days ($1,800) on any containers that have incurred storage, if the unit is picked up between Thursday, November 10 at 20:00 and Monday, November 14 at 04:00.
    This rebate will be offered only to the guaranteeing party.

    ELD rules to see mixed enforcement on Jan. 1

    Federally regulated carriers – as well as carriers that work exclusively within the borders of Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, and Yukon – will have to use electronic logging devices (ELDs) as of Jan. 1. But plans in other jurisdictions vary.
    The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada identified the updated provincial rules following a fall meeting of the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) compliance and regulatory affairs committee. Read more here.

    China’s exports shrink unexpectedly as global slowdown jolts demand

    China’s exports and imports unexpectedly contracted in October, the first simultaneous slump since May 2020, as surging inflation and rising interest rates hammered global demand while new COVID-19 curbs at home disrupted output and consumption.
    The bleak October trade figures highlight the challenge for policymakers in China as exports had been one of the few bright spots for the struggling economy. Read more here.
