    AIR FREIGHT UPDATES
    Halifax Stanfield re-opens after SkyLease 747 freighter overruns the runway

    Halifax Stanfield Airfield has re-opened after a Boeing 747-400 freighter operated by SkyLease came off the runway early this morning.
    The airport said the incident occurred at 5.05am local time when the aircraft (Flight KKE 4854/Reg 908AR) came in to land from Chicago, going off the end of runway 14/32.  Read more here. 


    Airfreight rates on key trades reach new highs for 2018

    Airfreight rates on the transpacific and Asia-Europe lanes continue to improve in October despite capacity growth outstripping demand improvements.
    Figures from TAC Index show that prices on services from Hong Kong to North America reached an average of $4.80 per kg in October, the highest level of the year so far and 18.5% up on last year.  Read more here.

    CIFFA Gathers Average Container Exam Costs for 2018

    For the past few years, CIFFA, as a result of a joint initiative with the CBSA, has been capturing container exam invoices in order to conduct an analysis of bottlenecks in the processes, and to push for transparency of process flows and standards.
    This year again, CIFFA has compiled an update of data around members’ container exam costs for 2018.
    In May and June of 2018, CIFFA asked for examples of container exam invoices.
    On a regular basis, CIFFA receives complaints of long delays in container examinations –with associated high costs.
    The association’s aim in collecting the data is to help support the development of a more cost-effective examination model across the country to reduce financial hardship on importers and exporters.

    Entry of heavy and medium goods vehicles into Delhi banned for three days

    The entry of heavy and medium goods vehicles into the national capital will be banned for three days beginning 11 pm on Thursday night as Delhi’s air quality worsened to the “severe-plus emergency” category following cracker burning on Diwali.

    Canada crude collapses amid lack of rail cars in Alberta to move oil exports

    The Government of Alberta is seeking ways to boost the volume of crude oil transported by rail out of Canada as a lack of available space on pipelines out of western Canada has contributed to record low prices for the nation’s crude versus international benchmarks, according to Shipping Gazette. Read more here.
