<strong>Red Sea-related demand yet to materialise but enquiries rise</strong>
    aircargonews.com
The airfreight sector is yet to see any solid rise in demand related to the Red Sea crisis but customers are enquiring about alternatives to sea transport.
While there is an expectation that vessel diversions away from the Suez Canal route and around the Cape of Good Hope due to attacks on vessels will result in supply chain disruption, this is yet to materialise. <a href=”https://www.aircargonews.net/business/supply-chains/red-sea-related-demand-yet-to-materialise-but-enquiries-rise/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener” data-cke-saved-href=”https://www.aircargonews.net/business/supply-chains/red-sea-related-demand-yet-to-materialise-but-enquiries-rise/”>Read more here. </a>

<strong>Gemini partners Maersk and Hapag opt for ‘hub &amp; spoke’ operation</strong>
    theloadstar.com
The liner industry’s new vessel-sharing alliance, the Gemini Cooperation, will buck the recent trend of direct port calls in favour of a ’hub &amp; spoke’ operation.
However, for the concept to work, shippers must be convinced that the Gemini relay network is resilient, has sufficient buffer and that exports and imports are guaranteed to make connections. <a href=”https://theloadstar.com/gemini-partners-maersk-and-hapag-opt-for-hub-spoke-operation/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener” data-cke-saved-href=”https://theloadstar.com/gemini-partners-maersk-and-hapag-opt-for-hub-spoke-operation/”>Read more here</a>.

<strong>Capacity concerns over Maersk’s Panama Canal rail bypass</strong>
    theloadstar.com
Maersk’s move to insert a land link into its service from Oceania to the US east coast, to bypass the Panama Canal, looks promising for forwarders, provided capacity stays ahead of demand.
The carrier announced last week that its OC1 service would not pass through the Panama Canal; the vessels from Australia and New Zealand to the Pacific coast will discharge their cargo at the port of Balboa for it to cross the isthmus by train to …<a href=”https://theloadstar.com/capacity-concerns-over-maersks-panama-canal-rail-bypass/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener” data-cke-saved-href=”https://theloadstar.com/capacity-concerns-over-maersks-panama-canal-rail-bypass/”>Read more here</a>.

<strong>Extreme Icy Weather Paralyzes Travel in Parts of Europe</strong>
    ajot.com
Freezing weather in Germany and other parts of Europe threatened widespread road, rail and flight disruptions as the region braced for snowfall and heavy ice build-up.
Frankfurt’s airport operator canceled more than half of the flights scheduled for Wednesday, while the country’s weather service warned of “extreme black ice” in the southwest and advised drivers not to venture out. Rail operator Deutsche Bahn AG said snow and ice could cause delays and train cancellations and limited the maximum speed of its high-speed ICE trains to 200 kilometers per hour (124 miles an hour). <a href=”https://www.ajot.com/news/extreme-icy-weather-paralyzes-travel-in-parts-of-europe?utm_campaign=eBulletin_240118&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=autopilot” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener” data-cke-saved-href=”https://www.ajot.com/news/extreme-icy-weather-paralyzes-travel-in-parts-of-europe?utm_campaign=eBulletin_240118&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=autopilot”>Read more here</a>.

<strong>Trudeau Concerned About Possible Port of Montreal Strike</strong>
    ottawacitizen.com
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he’s concerned about the long-term consequences of a possible strike at the Port of Montreal and is hoping for a negotiated settlement.
Such labour disruptions can cause long-term economic pain, he told an event organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal on Tuesday.
“The uncertainty, the disruption to supply chains” don’t just cause problems during strikes. After port activities resume, some customers who had found alternative transportation never return to ports, he noted. <a href=”https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/trudeau-concerned-about-possible-port-of-montreal-strike?utm_campaign=eBulletin_240118&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=autopilot” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener” data-cke-saved-href=”https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/trudeau-concerned-about-possible-port-of-montreal-strike?utm_campaign=eBulletin_240118&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=autopilot”>Read more here</a>.
