    London Gatwick cargo up 29.6% in January

    London Gatwick Airport saw airfreight throughput rise by 29.6% year on year in January, driven by the UK gateway’s growing long-haul flight network.
    Total cargo throughput for January stood at 7,824 tonnes. Read more here.

    Perishables sector must get more creative when booking air freight capacity

    Cargolux has called on the perishables industry to be more creative when booking space, with expected aircraft orders unlikely to satisfy demand.
    Speaking to The Loadstar, Cargolux general product manager Stavros Evangelakakis and director of global logistics Franco Nanna called for the wider integration of predictive analytics. Read more here (login required).

    Maersk eyes more acquisitions

    A.P. Moller – Maersk has hinted at further acquisitions, even as it prioritises the smooth intergration of new addition Hamburg Sud to its range of brandds.
    A.P. Moller – Maersk released its annual results today, managing an underlying profit of $356m, compared to a loss of $496m in 2016. Revenue grew by 13%. Read more here.

    NY/NJ is US 3rd busiest port with record volume of 6.71m TEU

    CONTAINER throughput at the port of New York and New Jersey rose to an all-time high of 6.71 million TEU in 2017, topping the previous annual record set in 2015 by 5.3 per cent. The strong performance means the port has held on to its ranking of third busiest in the US after Los Angeles and Long Beach. Read more here.
