Myanmar coup latest: Yangon international airport closed

YANGON/TOKYO — Myanmar’s military has detained State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Myint in what appears to be the country’s first military coup since 1988 and the possible end to a decade of civilian rule.
The Suu Kyi-led National League for Democracy, which came to power in 2015, won another landslide victory in the general election last November. The civilian government was moving into its second term, but the military has claimed the election was marred by fraud and demanded an investigation. Read more here.

Air Canada Cargo Service to Mexico, Caribbean Continues

Air Canada Cargo continues to provide capacity to and from Mexico and the Caribbean through cargo-only flights. (Air Canada announced last week that passenger flights to those locations are suspended to support the Government of Canada’s COVID-19 mitigation efforts.)

Ocean freight rates set to stabilise but at high levels

Ocean freight rates on transpacific and Asia-Europe trade lanes soared on sustained demand and a shrinking pool of available, empty containers last year but the weeks to come are set to bring a stability in prices while remaining at relatively high levels, according to expert and industry sources. CP and union reach tentative deal

Canadian Pacific Railway Limited and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference Rail Canada Traffic Controllers (TCRC-RCTC) are pleased to announce a tentative three-year agreement.

Canada Post outlines what it learned in 2020

In 2017, Canada Post delivered one million parcels on 67 different days, mostly during the holiday season. In 2020, it started delivering a million or more parcels a day in mid-April and continued right through to the end of the year – 181 consecutive delivery days. Read more here.

The World Customs Organization’s Tariff and Trade Affairs Directorate, in close cooperation with the World Health Organization, has prepared a new HS classification reference for vaccines and the medical consumables normally used during the vaccination process, including the equipment used for their storage and transportation.
