    Air Canada cargo revenues stronger than passenger for the first time

    Air Canada’s cargo revenues have exceeded passenger revenues for the first time, the carrier said in its second quarter results, which were released on July 31.
    Total operating revenue in the second quarter fell 89% to C$527 million. Of that, C$269m came from cargo — a 52% year-on-year increase from the same period last year — and $207m came from passenger transport.  Read more here.

    Riots Prompt United Airlines To Empty Chicago Operations Center

    Canadian government won’t play peacemaker to end port strike

    Canadian officials expect the Port of Montreal longshore workers’ union and the employment association to resolve their differences without government intervention.
    Longshore members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 375 began an indefinite strike Monday after the latest talks with the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) broke down. It’s the fourth walkout staged by CUPE since July 1. Read more here.

    Montreal Port Strike: Maersk Announces Additional Inland Charge

    To cover its “incremental inland costs related to moving containers via alternative gateways during the Montreal port labour situation,” Maersk has announced that it will add an Import/Export Inland Charge to the effective contractual rate at time of shipment.
    Maersk will use St. John and Halifax as alternative routing ports (using rail service to/from Montreal).

    Construction to start on new Cebu port in Consolacion before 2021

    A NEW Cebu international port project in Consolacion town in northern Cebu is expected to decongest the Cebu City port when completed in two years, reports the Cebu Daily News.
    It is hoped work on the PHP10.1 billion (US$205.9 million) New Cebu International Container Port (NCICP) in Tayud, Consolacion can start before the end of the year. Read more here.

    Canadian Pacific launches first train of international containers from Port of Saint John

    ​Canadian Pacific (TSX: CP) (NYSE: CP) today officially launched its international intermodal service through the Port of Saint John, N.B. The inaugural train carries containers from the Hapag-Lloyd vessel Detroit Express bound for intermodal terminals on the CP network in Canada and the U.S. Read more here.
