    Air Canada Cargo receives IATA certification for transport of live animals

    Montreal, QC – Air Canada Cargo received the first Center of Excellence for Independent Validators for Live Animals Logistics (CEIV Live Animals) Certification by IATA after successfully completing the pilot program launched in March. Read more here.

    Cheap Tickets Are Killing India’s Booming Air Market

    (Bloomberg Opinion) – Go to any Indian airport, and it’ll appear that nearly all of the country’s billion-plus people have decided to fly. Yet talk to shareholders of India’s largest aviation businesses, and they’ll tell you how miserable they are.
    Oxygen masks have been down since last month’s 97 percent drop in quarterly profit for InterGlobe Aviation Ltd., which operates IndiGo, the budget carrier with almost two-fifths of India’s domestic market. Read more here.

    Carriers take comfort as spot rates look to be entering calmer waters

    Today’s Shanghai Containerized Freight Index (SCFI) offered some positive news for the container lines.
    Overall, the SCFI comprehensive index ticked up 3.36 points to 893.88, which compares with the reading 12 months ago of 878.27, when the market was beginning to soften. Read more here (login required).

    Big spike in containership lay-ups mid-peak season a worry for owners

    Alphaliner’s bellwether containership idle tonnage data has recorded a big spike in vessels being consigned to lay-up, shifting the supply-demand balance back in favour of the charterer.
    The consultant said the capacity of the idle tonnage fleet had risen to 341,000 teu by the end of July, representing 1.6% of the total global cellular fleet. Read more here (login required).

    Port of Halifax puts real-time terminal performance numbers online

    Companies that are moving cargo through the Canadian gateway of Halifax can now check via the port’s website how containers pass through the terminals.
    The port authority displays real-time turnaround times at its two container facilities, South End Terminal and Fairview Cove Terminal.  Read more here.
