    Warsaw Airport Closed Due To Threats Against Aircraft

    On April 21, Poland’s Warsaw Chopin Airport was temporarily closed after a bomb threat to an Emirates flight from Dubai. Emirates EK177 was on approach to Warsaw Chopin Airport when it received a message from air traffic control that it had “hazardous materials” onboard. The Boeing 777-31H(ER), registration A6-ENX, landed safely at 1940 local time (1740 UTC) and taxied to a remote part of the airport. Read more here.

    After being towed to anchorage on Sunday, the Ever Forward has been examined and found to be undamaged by its month in the mud of Chesapeake Bay. However, the damage the ship might or might not have caused to the local environment looks set to be a matter for the lawyers. Read more here.


    Floating dock tilts and nearly sinks in Japan

    A floating dock nearly sank after listing heavily and tilting in Saka town, Hiroshima Prefecture, on Tuesday morning.
    According to the local authorities, the incident involving a 55 m long and 34 m wide dock for inspection and maintenance of ships was reported at around 08.00 hrs local time.  Read more here. 


    Biden bans Russian ships from calling at America ports

    Eight weeks into the invasion of Ukraine President Joe Biden has finally decided to join Canada, the UK and the European Union in banning all Russian-affiliated ships from calling at American ports.
    “That means no ship, no ship that sails under the Russian flag or that is owned or operated by a Russian entity, will be allowed to dock in a United States port or access our shores. None,” Biden said yesterday.
    Russian vessels made up less than 3% of all calls at US ports last year. Read more here.


    Port of Oakland exporters eligible for new federal incentives

    The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) is providing agricultural and other exporters assistance in covering expenses involved in using the pop-up yard opened in March at the Port of Oakland. The funding is for the temporary staging of loaded export containers at the temporary container yard, set up to help relieve port congestion. Read more here. 


    Carriers roll out more blank sailings in a bid to underpin slide in spot rates

    The 2M alliance is preparing to blank three Asia-North Europe sailings next month, as export demand from China plummets and container spot rates come under increased pressure.
    2M partners MSC and Maersk have cancelled their Griffin/AE55 loop for the first week of May and will void two voyages of their key Shogun/AE1 service in the following weeks. Read more here (login required).

    Shanghai factories to restart production but supply chain issues continue

    Factories in the Shanghai area are slowly returning to production in a closed-loop system but supply chain disruption is expected to continue for some time.
