Update on Port of Yantian
We would like to inform you on the latest COVID-19 related impacts to the Yantian Port Operations in China. Unfortunately, the situation continues to deteriorate as more positive COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Shenzhen, which is directly impacting the Yantian International Container Terminal (YICT) and the port of Shekou. What started last week with terminal restrictions, has now created a domino effect, leading to increased congestion and poor efficiency at both port terminals.
Here are some key underlines to take into consideration moving forward.
- Vessel delays upwards of 14 days are expected.
- From 00:00 AM 6th of June to 23:59 PM 13th of June, export laden container gate-in will be accepted only 3 days prior to vessel ETA in Shekou port.
- Nansha port traffic congestion and 7-hour waiting times for empty container pick-up and laden container gate-in.
- YICT has 16 berths, but the daily operation is limited to 5 berths and taking over twice the time to finish the loading than before.
- The number of waiting container ships at YICT has risen from 24 to 34, compared with last Friday’s data.
- Carrier are now announcing vessels will be omitting their usual calls at the terminals of Yantian or Shekou.
