    Top 20 Cargo Airports: Leading hubs bounce back after Covid hit

    Covid lockdowns and virus-related freight surges in 2021 influenced the final ‘premier league’ table of the world’s top 20 cargo airports in 2021 (see chart at end of article).
    Global economic shocks, China’s Covid lockdowns and the war in Ukraine will similarly impact 2022’s final running order. As we enter the fourth quarter of 2022, we can take a glimpse at cargo flows so far. Read more here.

     

    Air cargo leaders optimistic on future demand and capacity

    Overcapacity is not expected to be an issue in the long term, according to a group of air cargo bosses.
    Reflecting on the future at TIACA’s Air Cargo Forum (ACF) in Miami, Tobias König, global chief executive, Rhenus Air & Ocean, said that capacity and demand will depend on how conflict will impact the global economy. Read more here.

     

    Toronto airport plans to convert offices into cargo facility

    MIAMI — Toronto Pearson International Airport is pursuing $136 million in funding from the Canadian government to repurpose an underutilized office complex for cargo operations, part of an effort to increase non-passenger revenue streams.
    Deborah Flint, the president and CEO of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, told FreightWaves at an industry event here last week that the 11-acre parcel was “not performing to its maximum potential” and that its proximity to other cargo and airline operations made it a good candidate for a cargo facility. Read more here.

    Los Angeles imports keep sinking as East Coast gains more ground

    The Port of Los Angeles reported yet another month of falling volumes on Tuesday, as the import pendulum continues to swing away from the West Coast and toward container shipping gateways on the East and Gulf coasts.
    Los Angeles’ total throughput for October came in at 678,429 twenty-foot equivalent units, down 25% versus October 2021. Read more here.

    US imports from China falling faster than from other countries
