    O’Hare $8.5 Billion Expansion Gets Go-ahead

    The USD$8.5 billion upgrade and expansion of Chicago’s O’Hare Airport has been cleared for takeoff after the City Council approved the plan.
    City approval comes after the airport’s two major airline tenants, American and United, agreed to support the city’s plan after a disagreement over gate assignments was overcome earlier this month. Read more here. 
    India Puts National Airline Up For Sale

    The Indian government has approved the sale of 76 percent of the country’s flag carrier Air India.
    An information memorandum issued by India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation said the government had given ‘in-principle’ approval for the sale, which includes Air India Express and the airline’s 50 percent stake in ground handler Air India SATS Airport Services. Read more here.

    Amazon ‘no threat to container lines’

    Amazon is not a threat to global container lines in the sense that it is not likely to launch its own container shipping operations, analysts agree, despite concerns about the e-retail giant from lines including Maersk.  Read more here. 
    Nobu Su’s last ship arrested and set for auction

    One of the last vestiges of the shipping empire built by Taiwanese tycoon Nobu Su has been put up for sale.  The F Whale, a 320,00 dwt very large oil/ore (VLOO) combination carrier, built by Hyundai Heavy Indsutries (HHI) for Su’s shipping line TMT in 2011 is now set for auction as creditors seek payments.
